The Los Angeles community is expressing outrage after federal agents detained a U.S. citizen father and took his baby during an immigration raid at a Home Depot parking lot in the Cypress Park neighborhood.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported the arrest of five undocumented individuals.

The 32-year-old Latino father was detained amid the raid, while his one-year-old daughter remained in the back seat of the car, strapped into her safety seat.

ICE Agents Arrest Father in Los Angeles and Spark Outrage

The incident, recorded by a member of the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network (LARRN), shows agents pulling the man from the vehicle while bystanders shout in protest.

In the footage, two agents can be seen checking the front of the car and attempting to calm the baby, while others handcuff the father and escort him to a van with the other detainees.

The little girl was left alone inside the vehicle for several minutes, heightening the tension among witnesses.

Agents Drive Away With the Baby Still Inside

The video shared by LARRN shows the moment when two masked, armed agents get into the car and drive away with the baby still inside — prompting shouts of “kidnapping!” from horrified onlookers.

LARRN, a coalition of more than 50 organizations and 1,500 volunteers in Los Angeles County, publicly denounced the action, calling it “brutal and racist.”

“The abduction of a man and a baby in a Home Depot parking lot in Cypress Park demonstrates the cruelty and brutality of indiscriminate, racially motivated raids happening in our neighborhoods,” the coalition declared.

The baby’s grandmother, María, said through tears at a press conference that the ICE raid left her “devastated” and demanded explanations from federal authorities about the agents’ conduct.

Rights Organizations Condemn the Operation

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), part of LARRN, also condemned what happened in the Los Angeles immigration raid.

Its executive director, Angélica Salas, called it “unthinkable” that the federal government ignored the wellbeing of a child during such an operation.

“We strongly condemn these violations of peace, dignity, and life in our communities — kidnappings, arrests, and deportations that exceed what is acceptable, legal, and necessary,” Salas told EFE.

The DHS initially justified the arrest by claiming that the man had threatened agents with a hammer. However, no evidence has been presented to support that claim.

As of Thursday, the father remains in federal custody, while the baby has been returned to her mother.

The incident has reignited the national discussion about excessive force in immigration operations and the impact of such tactics on Latino families across the United States.
